The thing about cancer is...

It blows. Seriously. It sucks, like no other.

There are those who will say, "Well, if you're going to get cancer, Wilms is the one to get." That's like saying, "Well, if you have to get a limb amputated, the left arm is the one to lose."

The fact is, it's cancer. You know, that word you hear that immediately brings images of death and despair to your mind?

I borrowed this nugget from the American Cancer Society:

SURVIVAL RATES FOR WILMS TUMOR
    Stage
    Favorable histology
    Unfavorable histology
    I
    99%
    83%
    II
    98%
    81%
    III
    94%
    72%
    IV
    86%
    38%
    V
    87%
    55%

Eve would be in the bottom right hand corner of the chart. I am making it public knowledge that I will most definitely slap the next person who gives me that crap about Wilms being the cancer to get. A little girl named Skye Getter, initially in the top left corner of the chart, died today after fighting her FOURTH RELAPSE of Wilms Tumor.

Support Jeff Castelaz as he bikes from Seattle to Los Angeles to raise money for childhood cancer research. Visit Pablove Across America to learn more. He, too, was told Wilms was the cancer to get, shortly before his son died from it.

There is funding for studies about the relationship between limiting TV time and children being active. Really. What's next? This just in: new study suggests eating sticks of butter may lead to weight gain. Let's fund something worthwhile. Because if you need a study to tell you that you will burn more calories when not parking your butt in front of a television set, maybe you don't deserve to fit into that dress after all.

  5. I borrowed some of your info and even quoted you on Jackie's cb site. Some of her nurses read it and I am hoping to change what they say to parents in my own little corner of the world. Thanks for sharing the info. I also read that up to 42% of kiddos that are UH relapse. Just something else to worry about!

  6. I agree totally with you. I hate this cancer and I think it shouldn't prey on anyone but especially should leave children alone!
