The verdict is in.

A brief phone call from Eve's doctor revealed that there has only been minimal change in the size of the toomahs. Thanks to the MRI, it appears that the surgeon will not be able to save the right kidney, after all. Let's get this surgery over with. It's time to poop or get off the pot.

Tomorrow morning we meet with the surgeon for Eve's pre-op appointment. It is quite interesting since we still do not know exactly when her surgery will be, but I'm sure we'll get an email at least the day before letting us know when they plan on taking out her kidney.

In addition to Eve being in the approximately 5% of kids with Wilms tumor who have it bilaterally, she is also unusual in the fact that she has lots of tumors, instead of just a larger one in each kidney. So now she will be left with one kidney, minus a couple of dents from where those SOBs are squatting. And all this makes me think we might have to relive this nightmare again one day in the future. But, I guess we can always flip a coin to figure out which kid gets to give Eve a kidney.

  1. Well, some progress is better than nothing, even if it's not in the teeny toomah department. My sister and I joke to this day that she's my plan B and not to get too attached to my backup kidney ha!

  2. Thinking of you guys and have you in our prayers with this news. I know you have had a long 12 weeks and a long road ahead of you. I pray for your family to continue on with your high spirits, Eve to be free from pain and other symptoms, and of course a cancer and tumor-free Eve. I can not imagine your day to day anxieties and long trips to Duke. I am glad you have so much support and please let us know if you need anything. Thanks for the heart felt updates; there are a lot of people you don't even know thinking and praying for you guys.

  3. iiiiiit's showtime! i want that shiitake cancer out of eve, the chemo to be completed, her to regain her energy and you to get some sanity back.

funny, my mind imagined a chemo character squatting and doing his "business" when you referred to the SOB's in her lefty.

  4. OOOOoooo Josh and Eve will be a matched set! Josh coughed up the left kidney to Wilm's goodness.

We actually have a new friend here in Columbus, same age as the kids, bilateral Wilm's, he is undergoing pre-op chemo as well.

Our kids are all too cool to have two kidneys. Who needs two duplicate orgnas?

  6. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. I pray that your meeting this a.m. will go well and that they can set the surgery up for very soon. Like Morgan mentioned, please know that there are many people out there praying and rooting for little Eve. We are here if you and the kids need anything. God bless.
